Texas State Bobcat

Towering above Texas State University's newly opened residence hall, this monumental Bobcat sculpture was one of the most rewarding projects I contributed to during my time at Smash Designs. Based on a design by Matthew Mazzotta, the sculpture was created to serve as a lasting symbol of pride, strength, and school spirit.

My role focused heavily on the surface detailing of the piece. I spent countless hours hand-carving fur textures to create movement, depth, and realism throughout the sculpture, while giving extra attention to the facial features to help capture the intensity and character of the Bobcat. Because the sculpture would be viewed from both a distance and up close, every texture and contour had to work together to bring the form to life.

Seeing the finished sculpture permanently installed as part of the Texas State campus was incredibly rewarding. Projects of this scale require the combined efforts of designers, engineers, fabricators, and sculptors, and I am proud to have contributed to a landmark piece that will be experienced by students and visitors for years to come.
